Postcard from Josh

I first met Josh in the summer of 1986 - we were both graduate students in Urban Planning, he at Columbia and me at University of Virginia.  I had come up to NYC for the summer and got an internship with the Dep't. of City Planning, and was assigned to the Bronx, where Josh was doing the same.  There are many, many, many awesome and unbelievable stories from our work in the South Bronx that summer, and I'll try and summarize them another time on this site.

But in honor of Josh passing away a year ago, a classic postcard from him, March 1987. The bubble caption reads "Fred be praised"

Per his message on the back, Josh invited me back up to NYC in the summer of 87 to cover for him at Michael Kwartler & Assoc. while he was away on his China trip ... and I ended up staying there and in NYC for the next 4 years!  So in an important way, I owe my NYC time and experience to my friendship with Josh.

Josh writes:
[Fred Harvey] the wise and beneficent one. Brian, The native industry's been going great these days. Feed feeds us well knock on wood. A: Columbia's sending all students for studios abroad - we're doing China if the chinese govt lets us in. (Questionable) Thanks for the help with the band. Your next assignment is to get us signed onto a label. Hey, we talked to the bassist of Rude Buddha in NYC [a Charlottesville band]. If my friend leaves (%50), you got a job at M.K. Associates - J.M.
